The Day Earth Was Greeted by the Extraterrestrials

I was late for office and the cab driver was struggling to find my location. I had to walk for about ten minutes to meet him at a landmark we both could identify. The traffic was even horrible, people were on the street, and panic had taken charge. I could not be bothered to see what was wrong. I was worried about my presentation which was scheduled for 2 pm, and I had to be early to discuss it with my Boss. My procrastination had beat me again. Remember kids, never push your work for the last minute. Never think you can stay up all night and finish your assignments, and still be on time for work the day after. It never works!

I was an hour late! My mind was playing out all the scenarios that could take place when I see my boss in his office. Would I be fired? What would happen if I lose my job? I have no savings at all! Was I really under the impression that I was indispensable? I enter my Boss’s chamber with thousands of things running in my head, barely able to hide my expressions. He’s sitting staring at his laptop screen, serious, worried and startled. “Jayant, do you have a minute?” I knock on the door, which I held half-open. “You think the pandemic was the worst thing to happen to humanity, now this!” He says. I cannot comprehend what was happening. Me being late for work was worse than the pandemic? Really? “They’re using some sort of gas bombs to insensate the people. No deaths so far, fortunately! Are you late again?!” he exclaimed with disappointment, looking at my bag and laptop. “I mean, is that the worst thing to happen today? Me being late? Doesn’t humanity have much bigger things to worry about?” I question, without having the slightest clue of what was happening in the world. “I guess you’re right. I’m blank now. We shall talk later” he says while gesturing me to leave him alone.

I came to my cubicle and Google what was happening. I could barely feel my senses after looking at the title of the first article, “Alien Invasion! Is This the End of Humanity?” I contain myself after a while and started reading. It was true. Major cities of the world were attacked by Aliens. They were seizing major buildings, airports, military bases, and every place that seemed important enough to capture. Strangely, no humans were killed. No properties were damaged. We were subjugated by a strange gas that left people with little to no response. People just wandered like zombies.

I did not want to die sitting at my cubicle. I had to go home, which seemed like a safer option. By the time I came out of my office building, there were vehicle crashes and people fighting everywhere. Panic had caused mass-hysteria. Tara came to my rescue and offered to take me home. As a matter of fact, she wanted me to ride her scooter, as there was plenty of chaos to ride though. By sheer dumb luck, we reached my apartment. I could not let her continue, so I offered to provide shelter until the Governments of the world devised plans to take the upper hand.

We enter my home, and Tara asked if I can get her some water. I went into the kitchen to get a bottle, but as I turned back I saw it. A six-foot-tall bluish-green animal. Standing on two legs, while its hands grasped a weapon of some sort. The head resembled somewhat to a fish but had enormous eyes. The eyes which were set on me.
